Electrolysis is still the only proven method for permanent hair removal.
It was invented in 1875 and even though Electrolysis has been around for a long time, it is as contemporary today as it was cutting edge in 1875.
How does Electrolysis work?
I insert a very small fine insulated probe into the follicle the hair is growing out of. A small charge comes out and cauterizes the growth source of the hair, called the papilla. Done properly, the unwanted hair slips out and that one follicle will not grow another hair.
The hair growth cycle.
Our skin is the largest organ on our body. There are thousands of follicles in the skin, and each one is capable of growing an unwanted hair. It takes the skin 12 to 15 months to go through a cycle of generating new hairs. This count down starts when all hair can be cleared in a single session.
There are 3 stages in each hairs' life. When it first comes out, the hair is attached to its' growth source, called the papilla. This is an active growing hair. As time goes by, the hair ages and begins to separate from the papilla. Eventually the hair will work its way to the surface of the skin where it will stay until something comes along to dislodge it. Any hair that is not an active hair, I call a dormant hair.
At any one time, a person has all stages of hair on their body. The only hair I can be sure of successfully treating is the active hair.
My first goal in removing your hair is to get to a place where all hair can be cleared in a single session. After this, regular sessions are vital until all hair is gone. Therefore, understanding how Electrolysis works and keeping regular appointments will ensure your satisfaction with the treatment and results.
Is it painful?
There is a sensation with treatment because each hair follicle is surrounded by nerves. The sensation varies with every person and with each area being treated.
Several things can be done to lesson the uncomfortable sensation. This includes:
*Oral pain medication (Ibuprofen and/or Acetaminophen)
*Topical anesthesia (I have OTC Lidocaine available for purchase.) Treatment settings used by the Electrologist can be adjusted.
*And, Most Important, Your motivation to have the hair removed.
